Paris Saint-Germain have signed French international Aissatou Tounkara from Man United on a two-year deal.

Tounkara, who recently took part in the women's World Cup with France, becomes PSG's latest squad addition and newest member of the defense.

The 28-year old was a player of Atletico Madrid, winning the Primera Division Feminina and the Supercopa de Espana, before moving to United last Summer. Despite only being a player of the English club for just one year, Tounkara ends her contract a year earlier than expected and heads over to the French capital.

During the 22/23 season, Tounkara made only five appearances overall. After, she was chosen to replace Amandine Henry in the French squad, for the WWC, which eventually got eliminated by Australia during the quarter-finals.

Tounkara becomes the seventh player to be recruited thus far whilst also being the fourth defender to arrive, with Nicole Payne, Viola Calligaris, and Thiniba Samoura being the others.

Aissatou Tounkara's first words as a PSG player

Like all the other new signings, Tounkara spoke with the PSG official website discussing all things on her PSG arrival.

Aissatou started off by saying, " I'm immensely proud to be signing for Paris Saint-Germain. As soon as I heard the club was interested in signing me, I knew it would be a great opportunity for me! I'm getting closer to my family and coming to a big club, so everything is in place for it to go well."

She was asked what motivated her to join the club, to which she answered, "It's a very ambitious club with a good squad. And I know a few players; Karchaoui, Geyoro, Katoto, Calligaris, and others. All the elements are in place for me to fit in with this project, and why not go for a title?"

Tounkara's experience due to playing in Spain and England was mentioned, and questioned how it changed her, " I had some great moments," she started but also added, "There were also hard moments. I'm happy to be back in France now."

We wish good luck to Tounkara with her new journey at PSG!
