As Sergio Ramos nears the end of his contract by the end of June, the veteran defender is eager to extend his stay at Paris Saint-Germain while the very own club is seemingly interested in keeping the veteran, considered a leader in the Parisian locker room, around PSG for at least one more year.

Despite an injury-plagued first season, Ramos has emerged as a leader in the PSG locker room during the 2022-23 campaign, reports Le Parisien while also citing that as the main reason for making the board of Paris Saint-Germain consider a contract extension next July.

Ramos has become a symbol of stability and order within the team this season. His consistent presence on the field (more because of the injuries suffered by other PSG players than his own merits, though) has propelled him to assume greater responsibility, offering guidance and advice to both young and experienced players.

During his initial season with the Rouge & Bleu jersey, Ramos faced more time on the sidelines than on the pitch. However, as he successfully strung together a series of matches, his influence in the locker room grew.

According to information obtained by Le Parisien, "Ramos' voice now carries more weight," as the veteran has gone on to "share his wisdom and counsel" with younger and more inexperienced players in PSG's roster.

Sergio Ramos has struggled a bit, but he's an appreciated veteran at PSG

Ramos has struggled at times on the pitch, though, namely against top-tier opponents, but the veteran center-back has made up for that by providing advice to those lacking a solid foundation and starting their tenures in an elite club such as PSG.

It is believed that everybody working at PSG's Camp des Loges, from players to members of the staff, thinks highly of Ramos and thinks he "exudes a remarkable sense of humility." On the field, Ramos always "motivates and directs his teammates, correcting their positions and encouraging them."

Ramos's extensive experience grants him substantial legitimacy, and he feels compelled to actively contribute whenever he steps onto the pitch. Even without the captain's armband, he leads through both actions and words.

Christophe Galtier, PSG's coach, views Ramos as an invaluable member of his squad (he's played the third-most minutes this season only behind Gianluigi Donnarumma and Marquinhos), and the manager has frequently cited him as an example for all other PSG players to follow on and off the pitch.

The French media outlet revealed that Ramos "shares a close bond" with Kylian Mbappe, while also informing that Ramos "has become an integral part of the PSG training center." The Spaniard has been able to serve as the glue to "strengthen relationships" between different players, and he's often seen "engaging in talks and interacting with everyone."

Le Parisien also revealed that Ramos is "appreciated by the club's young talents," adding that during the dramatic Lionel Messi's Saudi Arabia trip-saga, the veteran defender and former Real Madrid player played "a proactive role in preventing it from turning into a disruptive drama" among the team. He consistently emphasizes the importance of hard work and maintaining team spirit.

Ramos is highly regarded by the PSG board although his future in Paris is still an open question. His contract expires at the end of June and he has yet to sign an extension to remain at PSG, although Le Parisien wrote that "conversations have already taken place among the parties involved, and signs point towards an extension for at least another season."

Ramos has expressed his desire to play at PSG for a minimum of three years (he's about to complete his second season in two weeks), and a decision regarding his contract is expected to arrive in the coming weeks and before his deal runs out by the end of next month.

As discussions about his future progress, it seems likely that the adventure will continue for at least another season, as Ramos seeks to fulfill his ambition of leaving a lasting impact at PSG.
