Nordi Mukiele, who joined PSG in the summer of 2022, is set to leave the club on loan to Bayer Leverkusen. Despite his initial promise, Mukiele never secured a regular starting position at right-back, with Achraf Hakimi firmly holding the spot.
Mukiele’s time in Paris was also marred by injuries, limiting his appearances to just 45 matches over two seasons. Last winter, Mukiele expressed his desire to leave PSG, but the club decided to keep him. However, with Luis Enrique now at the helm, Mukiele finds himself out of the coach's plans for the 2024-2025 season.
Mukiele's next move, loan to Leverkusen
According to L’Equipe, the French international will join Bayer Leverkusen on loan without an option to buy. This move comes after several days of discussions between Mukiele and the German club's management.
Leverkusen’s coach, Xabi Alonso, is looking for a versatile defender who can quickly adapt to the team’s style of play. Alonso recently spoke with Mukiele, outlining his vision for the player's role in multiple positions, which appealed to Mukiele.
An agreement in principle has been reached, and Mukiele, who also received offers from top Italian clubs, is expected to travel to Leverkusen to complete his medical examination on Wednesday.
The transfer was confirmed by Fabrizio Romano, a well-known transfer expert, who reported that the two clubs agreed on the loan deal without a purchase option on Tuesday. Bayer Leverkusen will cover Mukiele’s full salary during his loan spell. This move provides Mukiele with the opportunity to regain his form and play a key role for the reigning German champions in the upcoming season.
