Marquinhos is set to retain his role as the captain of PSG for the 2023-24 season. This decision was formally made today through a vote conducted by the players of the team themselves.

The unexpected move by Luis Enrique to keep Marquinhos on the sidelines during the opening match of Ligue 1 against Lorient (0-0) caught many by surprise. This action hinted at internal conflicts, possibly due to Marquinhos' somewhat lackluster performances in recent months.

Additionally, the Spanish coach had emphasized in a press conference that it's the Parisian players, not himself, who should determine the captain. Thus, the spotlight was on the players directly involved, and they have now made their choice.

Continuing with the captain's armband, Marquinhos' status was affirmed after a second voting session held on Tuesday morning. Initially, the chosen player's name was kept confidential.

However, and as anticipated, Marquinhos emerged as the unanimous winner, as reported by L'Equipe. The accomplished central defender, who has held this responsibility for three years running, will persist in leading the team as the captain of the squad on the pitch.
