Marco Asensio expected to play in the Ligue 1 for the first time since September
PSG will face Le Havre in Ligue 1 on Sunday's afternoon slate of games and Marco Asensio, while not included in Luis Enrique's starting XI, is expected to get his first minutes of playing time in the league since he got injured last September while playing with Spain.
An hour before the scheduled 1 p.m. kick-off, PSG announced their lineup for the matchup against Le Havre with manager Luis Enrique implementing several changes to his usual squad. Notably, Danilo will feature in the middle of the defense taking over from Skriniar, who was withdrawn at the last minute with an unexpected injury.
Fabian Ruiz, Lee Kang-in, and Vitinha will start on the midfield of PSG although it's expected that Asensio enters the game at a later stage to get some playing time after missing three months while sitting on the shelves.
Bradley Barcola, Ousmane Dembele, and Kylian Mbappe will be the forward of PSG on Sunday, making for a perfect French frontline.
Asensio's absence from the starting lineup traces back to Sep. 3 in a game PSG won against fierce rivals Olympique Lyon (4-1) in Ligue 1. The Spaniard's last start was followed by an injury during the Georgia vs. Spain match during the first international break of the season.
Marco Asensio made a brief appearance in the last minutes of the Champions League matchup between PSG and Newcastle, but he has yet to grace a Ligue 1 pitch.
That spell should end today, as Luis Enrique is expected to bring Asensio back to the pitch for the second game in row, this time in league competition so he can keep getting more and more minutes to get ready and fully fit ahead of the final weeks of the year and into 2024.
