Having recently taken charge as PSG coach, Luis Enrique seems keen on exerting his influence on the team's management, with a particular interest in the young talent, Hugo Ekitike, and the potential of making him PSG's starting no. 9 for the 2023 season.

Ekitike arrived at PSG with high expectations from Reims last year on loan, having already earned the reputation of promising French talent.

The club showed their commitment to acquiring him by investing approximately €35m in the player this summer after exercising a must-buy clause attached to his loan deal.

However, the striker's performances last season fell short of the anticipated standard, leading to uncertainties surrounding his future as the summer transfer window opened.

With Kylian Mbappe's absence during the team's training camp in Japan, the 21-year-old forward seized the opportunity to make an impression.

According to Le Parisien, Hugo Ekitike has "managed to impress Luis Enrique" during the camp. The Spanish coach "appreciates Ekitike's attributes and playing style," making him an interesting prospect for the upcoming season.

However, it appears that the management's stance on the matter isn't entirely unanimous and not all staffers of PSG are convinced of using Ekitike as the starting no. 9 as soon as this upcoming season.

As Le Parisien reported, the PSG board is "not entirely opposed to the idea of selling Ekitike" or "potentially loaning him out" before the transfer window closes.

Despite Luis Enrique's interest in keeping the player, the final decision may rest on the board's assessment of the situation, as it is usually the case with everything happening around PSG these days...

Currently, Hugo Ekitike stands as the sole number 9 in the Ile-de-France squad, highlighting his potential significance to the team if only for the lack of warm bodies to occupy the front of the forward line next season.
