Luis Campos on the verge of getting fired by PSG
Internal strife has erupted within Paris Saint-Germain's management, casting a shadow despite their victory over Lens (3-1) at the Parc des Princes and putting Luis Campos in a perilous position, according to Le Parisien.
The conflict involves three key figures: Victoriano Melero (club secretary-general), Gregory Durand (legal department director), and Luis Campos (sports advisor), with the former two demanding Campos' removal due to his alleged autocratic methods and his tendency to sideline them in critical transfer dealings.
They have reportedly "voiced concerns" that such practices could jeopardize the club's adherence to Financial Fair Play regulations. Campos, known for prioritizing athletes' needs, "faced his opponents in a tense meeting" where he highlighted the "primacy of player interests."
This disagreement exposes deeper tensions that have been simmering "for months" at PSG, exacerbated by the transfer window's heightened pressures.
Campos, along with his collaborator Olivier Gagne and in coordination with coach Luis Enrique and club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, led transfer strategies. Al-Khelaifi is now in the position of deciding Campos' fate following the demand for his dismissal
Although the PSG president and Campos have coexisted with civility for a year, their differences have become more evident.
Campos is set to oversee the transfer window's conclusion, aiming to secure new recruits while possibly offloading players like Hugo Ekitike and Marco Verratti.
While PSG's recent signings, including Manuel Ugarte and Lucas Hernandez, have provided a boost, Campos' potential departure would mark the end of an era for the club. Having arrived alongside coach Christophe Galtier just a year ago, Campos' exit would necessitate the search for a new sports director, marking the seventh appointment in a dozen years.
In the face of these internal tensions, a club spokesperson "vehemently denied any discord," asserting "unity" across the organization. Campos might have his days numbered in the French capital.
