According to reports from Foot Mercato and SPORT1, PSG has entered the race to sign France international and Bayern Munich defender Lucas Hernandez as soon as this summer after the player stopped his negotiations with the German giants, putting his future in the Bavarian club in doubt.

On Thursday, May 25th, French newspaper L'Equipe confirmed that PSG and Hernandez have already agreed to terms between them and a move is only pending a bid submitted by Paris Saint-Germain and accepted by Bayern Munich in order for the operation to be completed.

According to surprising reports emerging on Wednesday, May 24th, we got to know that PSG were making significant strides in their pursuit of Lucas Hernandez. The French defender has been on the radar of the Parisian club for several years, and he continues to be highly regarded by the PSG staff.

Sport1 and Foot Mercato reported that the Bayern Munich star is the top priority for the reigning French champions as they search for a left-sided defender that can improve on the contributions of current backup Juan Bernat.

The 27-year-old France international is under contract at Bayern Munich until June 2024. Negotiations for a contract extension between Hernandez and Bayern were already underway, but the strong interest shown by PSG has caused the defender to put those talks on hold as he hopes for Paris Saint-Germain to make a move to sign him.

Things have escalated quickly in the last few hours, and L'Equipe is already reporting an agreement between the player and the French-capital club in the early Thursday morning.

Bayern Munich won't just give up on keeping Hernandez in tow, though, and the German side is expected to still try and convince the defender to ink an extension with them in the near future before just accepting whatever offer PSG submit for the France international.

However, the enticing offer from PSG has altered the talks between Hernandez and his current club, and the club led by former Parisian coach Thomas Tuchel is unwilling to prevent the player's departure this summer as they'd risk losing him for nothing in June 2024 as that's when his current contract will expire.

Despite the impending arrival of Milan Skriniar, PSG is expected to strengthen their central defense this summer and Lucas Hernandez would be the second stout d-man to arrive in Paris following Skriniar and midfielder Manuel Ugarte, who is expected to join from Sporting after PSG complete the payment of his €60m release clause.

While Thomas Tuchel will surely hope that Lucas Hernandez will stay, his departure from the second-place team in the Bundesliga and probable league-losers Bayern Munich is now nearly a fait accompli only pending an agreement between PSG and Bayern for a transfer fee.
