As Kylian Mbappe's contract with PSG edges closer to its end in June 2024, an old friend has emerged from the shadows as a potential party interested in entering negotiations with the Frenchman next summer: Premier League giants Liverpool.

While Real Madrid has long been linked to the French international and the Spanish club is still considered his most probable future destination, Liverpool and Bayern Munich have (re)entered the race of late, adding some alternatives to Mbappe's options.

Per FIFA rules, Mbappe will be able to negotiate freely with any club he pleases from Jan. 1, 2024 onwards.

Although PSG hopes for an extension and has already established some early talks with their superstar, Real Madrid's interest seems to have wavered of late due to financial concerns over the cost of his salary and the signing bonus the forward might demand.

Real Madrid is believed to be exploring alternatives, including the potential recruitment of Erling Haaland a few years from now when he hits the open market as his deal at Man City finishes.

Recent reports from RMC Sport suggest that Real Madrid is attempting to shift the onus onto Mbappe to express his desire to join the Spanish capital. That way, if they ultimately can't convince the player, the narrative won't paint them as the sore losers they don't want to become.

Meanwhile, Liverpool, led by Jurgen Klopp, has reportedly reignited interest in landing Mbappe next summer if he becomes a free agent, hoping to secure a deal that they already tried to close in previous transfer windows.

Bayern Munich, according to Sport1, has also thrown its hat into the ring even though the Germans are also concerned about Mbappe's current and future high salary demands. Bayern's management, having recently secured Harry Kane for over €100m, sees the French international as a valuable addition and perhaps the final player on their way to European domination.

Most recently, Bayern's manager and former Mbappe's coach at PSG Thomas Tuchel commented on his desire to reunite with the world champion in Munich, bringing the forward to Germany.

Get ready for a long winter, spring, and summer because the rumors are just getting started.
