Lionel Messi and Sergio Ramos on track to extend contracts with PSG
With their deals ending next June, both Lionel Messi and Sergio Ramos could re-ink their contracts with PSG, informs Spanish radio station Cadena SER. The Spanish media confirmed that extending their contracts remains the most likely option as of now for both players.
PSG are already working to renew contracts for the members of their first-team squad. While Marco Verratti's extension should be formalized soon, the French capital club are hoping to extend some other deals in their books in order to retain several players considered part of their core.
One of the big issues lies in solving the future of Argentina legend Lionel Messi. With his contract ending next June, the World Cup finalist will have the freedom to discuss the different options that he has on the table as soon as next January.
After a lackluster first year in donning Parisian threads, the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner has started his second season in Paris at a much better pace finally setting in the capital.
Satisfied with his performance and his importance in the Parisian locker room, PSG will try to take advantage of the sweet moment Messi is currently enjoying. Paris Saint-Germain want to keep La Pulga in France and is working on the economic aspects that would allow them to keep him in their ranks.
A contract renewal with PSG, the most likely scenario for Lionel Messi
In the middle of the World Cup with Argentina, the former Barcelona star will have (and is expected) to discuss his future once the international competition ends.
According to Cadena SER, Lionel Messi's extension with PSG remains the most likely option for both parties to date. The Argentine is thriving in Paris and finally seems to have gotten used to his new Parisian life.
The 35-year-old striker believes that he is in a position to continue playing at the highest level and therefore to postpone the scenario of a trip to the United States or another lesser league, an option that has been rumored for several years.
A return to his second hometown in Barcelona is not very probable either since the contact between Messi, his entourage, and the leaders of the Spanish club's front office seems to be broken since the Catalans blatantly kicked him out of Camp Nou through the back door.
Lionel Messi's future is not the only one getting already studied. Sergio Ramos should also discuss his future with PSG soon. Injured for most of last season, the Spaniard is playing a lot more this year for Paris Saint-Germain even in a secondary role.
Also according to Cadena SER, the former Real Madrid captain also likes PSG and is inclined to extend his stay in France.
At the start of the season, PSG's sporting director Luis Campos opened the door to the 36-year-old defender's extension saying that “[Ramos] continues to perform well, so why not continue?” to the microphones of RMC.
It will be necessary to see if these declarations materialize in a concrete proposal for the defender in the next weeks. The results of the second part of the season could also influence PSG's position in this saga.
