On Sunday, May 28th, Kylian Mbappe was named Ligue 1 Player of the Year for the 2022/23 season. When asked about his short-term future in the capital, Mbappe confirmed that he will stay in Paris to play at PSG for at least one more season.

"I have acontract, I am very happy,” Mbappe stated. The French world champion assured everybody that he will respect his deal (running until June 2024 with a player option for an extra season) and play at PSG next season.

"Next year, I will play at PSG," started Mbappe. "I still have a year under contract so I will honor it." Mbappe didn't make clear, though, what will happen after we hit June of next year when his deal runs out and he hits free agency unless he can reach an agreement with PSG to extend his presence in the nation's capital.

The statement offered by the young forward, now a four-time Player of the Year in France, should calm the nerves of the PSG board and the supporters of the Parisian club for the next few months. As we approach January, though, anxiety might start to come back to the forefront if Mbappe doesn't offer any news about his contractual situation with PSG.

"When you win the championship and you're here from the first through the last day, that's a successful season," said Mbappe. "And when you're named the best player and potentially the top goalscorer, I also think that's a success,” he added.

The forward was voted Ligue 1 Young Player of the Year in three consecutive seasons (2017, 2018, 2019) and he then proceeded to win the major PotY award in the following four seasons through 2023, making it eight trophies in a row.

Mbappe (28 goals) will try to finish the season at the top of the goalscoring table that he already leads by one single goal over Lyon's Alexandre Lacazette (27). That would give Mbappe his fifth top-goalscorer award, putting him on level with Jean-Pierre Papin.

Arriving in Aug. 2017 at PSG on loan from Monaco after the latter club beat Paris Saint-Germain to the Ligue 1 title, Mbappe will soon celebrate his six years with the club from the French capital in which he's won five of six possible leagues and been named PotY four times.
