Julian Draxler expected back at PSG next June
Germany international and Benfica loanee Julian Draxler is expected to return to PSG next summer when his loan deal runs out. Benfica don't plan to turn the loan into a full-time partnership, according to Portuguese media outlet O Jogo.
The Iberian outlet reported on Monday the unwillingness of Portugal giants Benfica to extend the loan deal into a full-time contract next summer. Benfica acquired the rights of Draxler last summer as part of a one-year loan deal running until next June.
Through New Year, Draxler (497) had played fewer than 500 minutes for his current team Benfica in just 12 appeareances for the Portuguese side. Adding injury to insult, it's only been five games in which he's started for Benfica through the first half of the season in those 12 matches.
Julian Draxler got loaned to Benfica and he will most probably return to PSG next summer
The Estadio da Luz won't see Draxler play football next season in Lisbon, or at least not donning the Benfica red and white jersey according to the latest information shared by O Jogo.
Draxler, mind you, has won four Ligue 1 titles with PSG since arriving in Paris back in the summer of 2016 aged just 22. He appeared in 30, 31, 11, and 18 games in the years he ended up lifting the trophy starting a combined 53 of them in those years.
The German midfielder, who is only 28 years old and right in the middle of his prime, is also leading Benfica in their push for another Portuguese league title this season with his club currently sitting atop Portugal's top-flight division.
Draxler's deal with PSG expires on June 2024, so if he comes back to Paris next summer and he still is not liked by coach Christophe Galtier and the rest of the coaching staff of PSG, odds are the capital club tries to find a new solution and a team willing to pay for his services.
