We're just one week away from the return of the Champions League to the Allianz Arena for the second leg (Wednesday, Mar. 8) of the Bayern versus PSG matchup. The Parisian situation in terms of injuries to their squad is not so bad, while Bayern's is probably better despite a bit of concern about Leroy Sane's ankle.
Bayern and PSG have a meeting next midweek on the occasion of the first knockout stage of the Champions League, and the possible absences of each team are already becoming clearer.
As of this writing entering Thursday, there are four casualties confirmed next Wednesday at the Allianz Arena: Manuel Neuer, Lucas Hernandez, and Benjamin Pavard won't be on Bayern's side while Presnel Kimpembe won't be eligible to play for PSG with a season-ending injury.
Most likely, PSG will need to add Neymar to their list as the Brazilian has been lastly seen using crutches after getting injured in the game against Lille two weeks ago.
For PSG, the presence of Achraf Hakimi and Renato Sanches will depend on the next few days. The latter has returned to training on his own of late, and the former is under investigation facing rape allegations.
There are also doubts about the availability or not of multiple Bayern players ahead of this game.
Leroy Sane got injured on Wednesday. Sadio Mane and Noussair Mazraoui are probably available
A starter in the first leg, Leroy Sane was injured in the training of the Bavarian side, as revealed by Bild. He is considered "questionable" for the Bundesliga match against Stuttgart this weekend and also for the matchup against PSG less than a week from now.
On the other hand, two great absents in the first leg should be available to defend the interests of the German team. Wounded just before the World Cup, Senegal international striker Sadio Mane returned to the field last Sunday against Union Berlin in a 3-0 win by Bayern.
Mane came off the bench and had a discreet last half hour, though it must be said those were his first minutes of action after three and a half months sitting on the shelves. He will be available against PSG, although we will see if he is fit enough to be in the starting XI of Bayern or if he's relegated to a substitute role to use only in case of emergency.
Finally, Morocco international Noussair Mazraoui is back eligible and certainly fit to get some minutes, but he has not played since the end of the World Cup and for more than two and a half months. Mazraoui recently joined Bayern's collective training sessions and is expected to be on the bench next Saturday for the game against Stuttgart in the Bundesliga.
After such a long absence, though, it feels rather hard that he starts against Paris Saint-Germain at the Allianz Arena next Wednesday.
