Importance of PSG having no game ahead of FC Barcelona second-leg
By Edward Otto
PSG has a week off before the second-leg match against Barcelona. This will benefit them in so many ways. Here at PSG Post, we evaluate the significance of Les Parisians having a full week's preparation before this match-up in Spain.
PSG were drawn against Barcelona in the Last 16 of the Champions League. Despite Barcelona's recent record in Europe, this fixture will be incredibly tough for PSG to navigate as Xavi's side has players who can cause any team in Europe problems.
When these two sides last met in the Champions League they cancelled each other out in the second leg of a Last 16 tie at Parc des Princes with the score being 1-1. The Blaugrana team had a mountain to climb going into the second leg after losing the previous game 1-4 at home.
What's intriguing about the fixture this time round is that both sides will have the week off ahead of the away legs. Let's explain why this will benefit PSG.
PSG have been fighting on all fonts this season
PSG are getting closer to wrapping up another league title and progressed to the final of the Coupe de France where they will face Lyon.
As most of their players have just come back from a long international break and are at the business end of a grueling season having a few more days to prepare for a mammoth encounter could do the world of good for them.
For instance, it lessens the likelihood of a key player picking up a fatigue-related injury just before the clash.
They will have more time to prepare
Luis Enrique's side doesn't have a Ligue 1 game ahead of the second leg of the Champions League in Spain which will take place on Tuesday 16th April.
This is vitally important for them as they will have more time to prepare for the game. It also means they have a week to study film which will prevent them from making any mistakes that had taken place in the first leg.
