Hugo Ekitike joined PSG last summer. Ekitike was not included in the World Cup list of France internationals flying to Qatar. Ekitike has already returned to Paris Saint-Germain's Camp des Loges to gear up for the second half of the season.
Sunday will mark the three-week mark since PSG played their last Ligue 1 game on Nov. 13 against Auxerre at the Parc. The Parisian won 5-0 and Hugo Ekitke scored the final goal in the 84th minute. Ekitike scored another goal in the 2-1 victory against Lorient on Nov. 6 away from home.
No more games have been played since then with the World Cup getting played between mid-November and mid-December this year.
Even while players not called up for the World Cup were given a brief vacation period by the staff of PSG, they are slowly returning to their training schedules these days.
Presnel Kimpembe (forced out of the French list with an injury) and Fabian Ruiz (didn't get called up by Spain) returned to Camp des Loges by the end of November. The last player to join them, as he announced on IG (h/t Canal Supporters), is French wunderkind Hugo Ekitike.
Hugo Ekitike missed on making the World Cup list and he is already back training with PSG at Camp des Loges
PSG will be back playing domestic games on Dec. 28 when they host Strasbourg on Match Day 16 of the French Ligue 1.
Players not called up for international games in the Qatar World Cup are returning to their clubs earlier than those pertaining to the nations that get progressively eliminated while with them. Hugo Ekitike didn't get Didier Deschamps' call and is already back with PSG.
Ekitike has arrived in the training ground of the Parisian club one day before the official date set for such returns.
Before official competitions kick off, though, PSG will face Paris FC in a friendly (Dec. 16) before facing Quevilly Rouen (Dec. 21) in another friendly so players who didn't attend the World Cup or returned early are properly conditioned for the second half of the season.
Hugo Ekitike joined Kimpembe and Ruiz at Camp des Loges two weeks in advance of the first friendly of the winter "pre-season" organized by PSG staffers.
Kimpembe missed the World Cup after suffering an Achilles tendon injury. Fabian Ruiz also got injured on his groin against Juventus and is still rehabilitating it.
