PSG visited Troyes for MD34 of the Ligue 1 and won the matchup easily 3-1 on the road to get closer to winning their 11th league title, a historic one in France.
This is an important victory as it allows Paris Saint-Germain to regain a six-point margin over second-place Lens after their victory against OM earlier this weekend.
After quite a tumultuous week that started with Lionel Messi's unsanctioned trip to Saudi Arabia and continued with multiple injuries, Christophe Galtier and his men played a serious game against a club in ESTAC Troyes condemned to Ligue 2 relegation.
The coach of PSG, Christophe Galtier, addressed the media in his post-game press conference
after winning an important game on Sunday away from the Parc des Princes against relegation-bound Troyes, almost clinching an 11th Ligue 1.
How did you find your team?
"Serious, determined and organized. We were interesting in that we wanted to use the ball, in how we prevented Troyes from developing his offensive actions, because they can be good at that. Even if it took us a while to settle, we were serious, with players who projected themselves more into the opposing area than in recent times."
This is an important victory in the race for the title… isn't it?
"Obviously! Like most of you, I followed yesterday's match (Lens – OM). We have a very efficient and dynamic rival in second place in Ligue 1. We were coming out of a poor performance against Lorient, we also had players absent. But we had to win this match to maintain the gap. We are entering a decisive period where we must approach matches with the desire to win them. To achieve this, everyone has to get on board. This was the case tonight, everyone got in tune."
Is Paris getting closer to the level it should have shown earlier in the second half of the season?
"Yes, because if we refer to the Angers match where we lead in the score and stop playing in the second half, this evening it was not the case. It's more like what we have to do with a big grip on the game, with consistency for an entire game."
Now that you have a six-point lead with four games remaining, is the championship over?
"No, there are 12 points left to play for. We host Ajaccio next week, and we remain underperforming at home. I don't see Lens making any missteps. We can't afford to do that either."
What did you think of the contributions of Ekitike and Warren Zaire-Emery?
"Hugo was very helpful, very fair technically, and put in a lot of effort. He could have been happier. But he was very interesting in a team structure that suits him. I am happy for him, he was rewarded for his efforts. He had this opportunity, he seized it. As for Warren, he worked well this week, he's a very young player, and he's been very good."
After apologizing, will Messi get his sanction reduced?
"I was asked the question before the game. I will give you the same answer. This is an internal topic, I have no comment to make on Leo and this topic."
