The international break is now finished with countries across the globe playing in another World Cup qualifier ahead of the tournament next summer. Whilst the qualification stage is finished in South America there is still plenty to play for in Europe. This international break was not the best for PSG as two key players (Ousmane Dembele and Desire Doue) picked up an injury.
This was far from ideal as the French champions have massive Champions League games coming up once club football resumes. Inspite of the injuries to those two the international break was favourable to some of the club's players. Here at PSG Post we discuss how the PSG players who represented their country fared over the second half of the international break.
PSG players international duty report:
France 2-1 Iceland:
Bradley Barcola: As France faced Iceland in their second group stage game of the window, Barcola was given a starting spot at the Parc des Princes, featuring as a right winger. He put in a solid performance and scored France's second goal of the night to seal their victory over Iceland.
Lucas Chevalier : He was a unused substitute again for the World Cup qualifier against Iceland. He will be disappointed that he did not get a start in front of his club fans as they see him on a weekly basis. If he does not start in any of France's next four World Cup qualifiers it is unlikely that he will be Les Bleus number 1 for the World Cup in Canada, Mexico and America.
Lucas Hernandez: Hernandez is in a similar situation to Chevalier as he did not start in any of France's two World Cup qualifiers this international break. His brother Theo Hernandez started one of the games which is concerning as he is more versatile then his sibling.
Bolivia 1-0 Brazil:
Marquinhos: The PSG captain did not start the game against Bolivia as Brazil had already qualified for the World Cup. He came off the bench with 30 minutes to go and provided a more calm presence at the back, and a bit more forward progression. This should not come as a surprise as he is a better player then Vitinho.
Ecuador 1-0 Argentina:
Willian Pacho: Pacho helped his side to secure a 1-0 home victory against the 2022 World Cup winners to end their 2026 World Cup qualifiers on a high note.
Morocco 5-0 Niger :
Achraf Hakimi: He played in one of Morocco's two World Cup qualifiers as Morocco have already qualified for the World Cup next year. He got an assist for Morocco's second goal from Ismael Saibari and was excellent throughout the 90 minutes in the 5-0 win against Niger. Morocco qualifying for the tournament early is a positive for PSG as Hakimi does not need to travel to a different continent for the next two international breaks.
Azerbaijan 1-1 Ukraine :
Illia Zabarnyi: Zabarnyi played in Ukraine's underwhelming 1-1 draw away to Azerbaijan. He was ok during the game but could have done better as he had a 78.5% pass succession rate and did not win any of his aerial duels.
