The international break has come to a close this season, with many national teams playing in World Cup qualifiers or the UEFA Nations League. As PSG is the best team in Europe, several players from the club were called up for their national teams.
The likes of Ousmane Dembele, Achraf Hakimi, Nuno Mendes, Vitinha, and João Neves, to name a few, played for their country in the past week. Here at PSG Post, we discuss how some PSG players performed for their country while on international duty.
Portugal:
Nuno Mendes: Contributed to both of Portugal's goals in the UEFA Nations League final against Spain. He smashed home the equaliser, and his athleticism played a part in the second goal. Defensively, he contained Lamine Yamal in the final. In the game against the hosts, Germany, he was Portugal's best player. The left back set up Cristiano Ronaldo for his goal and helped push Neto forward.
João Neves: João Neves played at right-back in both of Portugal's games. He was at fault for Spain's first goal in the UEFA Nations League final. He was taken off for Semedo after half-time. He did ok in the first game, considering he doesn't usually play that position. The 19-year-old bombed forward when necessary and showed he can tackle.
Vitinha: Was calmness personified in the first game against Germany and had a steady performance in the second game against Spain. It was difficult for him to impose himself against the European Champions as they have the best midfield in the world.
Goncalo Ramos: Had little time to do anything when he came on in the 88th minute against Spain in the final. Ramos was an unused sub in the first game.
Spain:
Fabian Ruiz: Ruiz looked fatigued after a long season with PSG in the second game against Portugal. The yellow card disrupted his performance. The midfielder didn't impact the game when he came on as a substitute.
France:
Ousmane Dembele: He was one of France's biggest threats in the pulsating clash with Spain. He didn't feature again after this game, after picking up an injury
Desire Doue: Had his moments in the first half against Spain, where he posed problems but as a whole he didn't do much in that game.
Bradley Barcola: When he came on against Spain, he was quite impactful despite being outpaced by Pedro Porro on several occasions. He didn't feature in the third-place playoff.
Lucas Hernandez: In the first game, he couldn't make an impact as his side was constantly on the attack. He put in a solid shift in the third-place playoff.
Others: Brazil, Ecuador and Morocco
Marquinhos and Lucas Beraldo put in stern performances to help Brazil qualify for the World Cup; likewise, Willian Pacho was brilliant for Ecuador. Achraf Hakimi scored against Tunisia in Morocco's first game and came on as a sub in the second game against Benin.
