Lucas Chevalier is looking to bounce back ahead of his second season at PSG

Last summer, Lucas Chevalier joined PSG from Lille LOSC following a great season to replace Gianluigi Donnarumma after Paris' first Champions League title. The Frenchman was expected to become their first option for the next few seasons. On paper, this attributes and potential made him a great fit for Luis Enrique and his team.

However, his performances quickly became a problem at the club, and while he managed to be excellent on the ball, he struggled in other areas, which ultimately led to him loosing his spot in the starting lineup to Matvey Safonov's profit.

Therefore, his future was in the balance this summer with many sources stating that he could be looking for a way out of the club this summer after missing out on a spot in France's 2026 World Cup squad.

Recently, the France international goalkeeper has confirmed to the club that he intends to stay at the club as he is also ready to fight to regain a starting role next season. An attitude appreciated by Luis Enrique and his staff. The 24-year-old will now have to prove that the club did not make a mistake signing him last season and that he should regain not only his starting role between the posts, but also Luis Enrique's trust.

Should Lucas Chevalier be trusted to be PSG's number one next season?

PSG are coming off another historical season after securing their second consecutive Champions League title, to keep their domination of European football going, the club has already made several important moves as Gonçalo Ramos and Kang-In Lee already left the club this summer for important sums to AC Milan and Atlético Madrid. Other moves are expected to follow with Randal Kolo Muani set to leave shortly. Therefore the prospect of seeing Lucas Chevalier leave this summer was real as rumours linked the club to a move for another goalkeeper.

Now, with the 24-year-old goalkeeper confirmed to stay, he will be expected to deliver much more than he did last season as he quickly lost the trust from fans and Luis Enrique. The transition from Lille to PSG has been incredibly difficult for him as he was much more scrutinised, every situation he was involved in was analysed for days.

Hopefully, he would have been able to settle at the club while on the bench and through the summer as missing on the World Cup squad will undoubtedly serve as a crucial shock to put him back on track.

The club should definitely keep their trust in him as he has all the talent to bounce back and become the top level goalkeeper he is supposed to be.
