France national team set to honour Ousmane Dembélé in special way

Ousmane Dembélé became the sixth French player to win the Ballon d'Or.

On September 22nd Ousmane Dembélé was awarded the 2025 FIFA Ballon d'Or following a historical 2024 - 2025 season with PSG that saw the French giants win their first treble. The 28-year-old played a pivotal role for his side throughout this campaign showcasing all his talent to the world with magical performances in the knockout stage of the Champions League.

He then became the sixth French player to receive the Ballon d'Or, the most prestigious individual honour in football, walking in the footsteps of Raymond Kopa (1958), Michel Platini (1983, 1984, 1985), Jean-Pierre Papin (1991), Zinedine Zidane (1998) and more recently Karim Benzema (2022).

Additionally, winning the Ballon d'Or allowed him to join a very exclusive club as he also became the 10th player in history to achieve the treble Champions League, World Cup and Ballon d'Or. He joins players such as Bobby Charlton, Franz Beckenbauer, Gerd Muller, Paolo Rossi, Zinedine Zidane, Rivaldo, Ronaldinho, Kaka, Lionel Messi and now Ousmane Dembélé.

Ousmane Dembélé honoured by France

After his well deserved Ballon d'Or, many fans around the world and most specifically in France celebrated his success as this event filled the streets of the French capital with joy.

To mark the occasion, the French National Team has decided to honour his player with a significant gesture as from now on Ousmane Dembélé’s number with the national team will be in gold, while his teammates' numbers will continue to be in white.

However, the France international will not be able to wear his new shirt until the November international window has he is still expected to be sidelined until the middle of October. The PSG star will therefore miss the Champions League clash between his former team, FC Barcelona and Paris on October 1st.

Nonetheless, he will be able to present his Ballon d'Or to his supporter as PSG host Auxerre at the Parc des Princes this Saturday as they will look to bounce back from their first defeat of the season at the hands of Marseille in Le Classique.
