After an very difficult game, Paris Saint-Germain made Champions League history as they defeated Arsenal after a penalty shootout to secure their second consecutive European title. They became the first French club to win the competition twice and the second club ever to retain their title in the Champions League era since Zinedine Zidane's Real Madrid.

Three positives as PSG made Champions League history

Paris made history once again

Last night, Luis Enrique's Paris Saint-Germain made history, becoming only the second team ever in the Champions League era to retain their European crown after Zinedine Zidane's Real Madrid. The final against Arsenal was not one for the ages with the Gunners mostly playing a defensive, though impressive brand of football for 120 minutes.

Only the result will matter as Luis Enrique and his team delivered on the biggest stage once again with an attractive brand of football. This victory has already cemented their place as one of the most dominant team in history alongside Pep Guardiola's Barcelona, Zinedine Zidane's Real Madrid or Alex Ferguson's Manchester United. Though, only Los Blancos managed to keep their title while dominating Europe.

Now for this team, the next step will be to equal the dominant Real Madrid side that won three Champions League in a row. It is something that seemed almost impossible to replicate but this team appears to have all the qualities to make the impossible possible.

Elite mentality from the European Champions

The Parisians proved once again that they had an elite mentality, which can help them overcome alomost everything. For a big majority of the game last night, the European Champions trailed to Mikel Arteta's Arsenal as Kai Havertz opened the scoring after just six minutes. Furthermore, the Gunners' defensive performance was very impressive in the first half as they held the Parisians to zero shot on target from five attempts.

The Parisians who tied the record for most goals scored in a single UEFA Champions League campaign had rarely been put in this position this season and could have easily crumbled. However, they seemed to comeback stronger in the second half and delivered a fantastic performance in extra time.

Then came the cruel penalty shootout where once again the strong nerves and mentality of this team helped them get over the line to secure their second consecutive Champions League title.

Luis Enrique is one of the best coaches in history

With PSG's victory last night, Luis Enrique has proved once more that he is one of the greatest coach in history. The Spaniard took over Paris Saint-Germain and made them one of the best team in Europe in just three seasons ending their decade-long quest for an European title. His tactical approach to the game is simply remarkable and we can see that he makes his team work hard with and without the ball.
