Paris took down Liverpool 2-0 in the second-leg of their Champions League quarter-final at Anfield and will face the winner of the tie between the Real Madrid and Bayern Munich in the semi-finals of the competition. The victory sent a strong warning to their upcoming rivals in the next round after another top-level collective performance.

Here are three positives and one negative following Paris Saint-Germain's 2-0 second-leg victory against Liverpool at Anfield.

Three positives and one negative as PSG defeated Liverpool

Positive #1: Defensive masterclass from Marquinhos

The Brazilian has had an incredible game last night (Tuesday 14th) against Liverpool. He seemed almost unbeatable throughout the game and his teammates needed him at this level. Over the tie, he was the best defensive assest of the team and won most of his contests against Liverpool's strikers.

The second-leg was just the confirmation that the PSG legend is back to his best level at the perfect time. Many will obviously remember his surreal last-ditch goal-line clearance in front of Virgil Van Dijk.

Positive #2: Safonov is the clear number one goalkeeper option

Last season, Gianluigi Donnarumma was a massive part of Paris' historical success. His departure over the summer was therefore seen as a big blow to their chances to repeat in the Champions League. Additionally, following Lucas Chevalier underwhelming performances this season, Matvey Safonov, second-choice goalkeeper has remarkably stepped up to the plate and showcased his qualities in the Champions League.

In this tie against Liverpool, many thought that the light would be too bright for the Russian, but the former Krasnodar player proved them all wrong with two solid outings that should seal his position as PSG's number one choice between the posts until the end of the season, barring any injuries.

Positive #3: Third consecutive semi-final appearance

The victory over Liverpool sent Paris onto the semi-finals of the Champions League. It will be the third consecutive appearance of the club at this stage of the competition, cementing PSG's status as one of Europe's giants.

The club went from several big disappointments to becoming one of the most dominant forces in the Champions League in the last five years. Furthermore, it brought the team closer to a potential back-to-back, a rare feat, only made by Real Madrid under Zinedine Zidane.

Negative #1: Désiré Doué struggled

The Frenchman had a very difficult game in the second-leg and was replaced by Bradley Barcola following a knock at the start of the second half. In the first-leg, he had a very good game and played a big part in their dominant display.

Unfortunately, he was well-defended by the Reds and his impact on the game faltered very quickly. He needs to be more consitent in his level of performances if he want to retain a starting spot ahead of Barcola.
