Paris Saint-Germain took down Liverpool 2-0 at the Parc des Princes in the first-leg of their Champions League quarter-final. The European Champions have a solid advantage ahead of the second-leg at Anfield next week but should remain focus to avoid a devastating Liverpool comeback.
In their dominant victory over the Reds, several players delivered top-level performances, including Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Désiré Doué and Warren Zaire-Emery.
Three positives and one negative as PSG dominated Liverpool
Positive #1: Another impressive European outing
Since Luis Enrique's arrival in the French capital, PSG has delivered several memorable performances in the Champions League, with most coming against Premier League clubs. These games have become opportunities to showcased their dominance over the English teams in fantastic European nights at the Parc des Princes.
This kind of performances will help the team reach new heights as they hope to win back-to-back Champions League titles.
Positive #2: Kvaratskhelia is on fire
The Georgian star is simply incredible since the start of the knockout stage, having already scored five goals in three games. He is one goal away from overtaking Kylian Mbappé in goal scored for a French team in the knockout stage of the Champions League.
However, the former Napoli player is not shining just through his goals but also thanks to his ability to always bring danger when going forward while maintaining impressive work rate.
Positive #3: Warren Zaire-Emery is an unstoppable machine
The PSG Academy graduate has reached new heights this season after his difficult spell at the club. He is now a key player of Luis Enrique's team and showcased a high level of performances over a long period. The 20-year-old has started 39 consecutive games for Paris and has maintained the same level of performances, stepping up as right-back and in midfield when needed.
His current level will make it harder for Fabian Ruiz to slot back into a starting role when he'll return from his injury.
Negative #1: Not lethal enough in front of goal
Despite their dominant performance and their two-goal advantage ahead of the second-leg at Anfield next week, many PSG fans and players were disappointed after the game. The European Champions had outclassed Arne Slot's team and were able to create numerous clear cut chances that would have ended all hopes of a comeback from Liverpool.
Unfortunately, these chances were not taken and will leave the door open to Liverpool in their mythical stadium to complete a comeback. Following the game, Luis Enrique shared his disappointment over the goal difference on the night to PSG's media team: "It’s a shame we didn’t score more goals"
