The Parisians had a very disappointing start this season in Ligue 1, which certainly left many fans worried as they started the campaign aiming to retain their Champions League title. While they managed to overturn the situation with four consecutive wins in all competitions, they will have to face unbeaten Manchester City in their second League Phase game in the Champions League.

To defeat the Citizen, the Parisians will need some of their players to lift them to a crucial European win. Here are three players that will need to step up to lead the Parisians to victory against City.

Three players that PSG will need to defeat Manchester City

1- Ousmane Dembélé

The 2025 Ballon d'Or is not having a great start this season either with France or with PSG. Despite his brace against Slovan Bratislava in the Champions League, he has no top level performances so far this season and has been rested several times already by his coach since the start of this campaign.

While it should not be too concerning for the fans and his team, it is important for the club that he finally start his season, and a massive clash against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium, in the Champions League is the perfect occasion to do so.

This clash will then be followed by another against Lamine Yamal's Barcelona and to defend their title, the Parisians will need to deliver a solid League Phase campaign against some of Europe's finest. To do so, Luis Enrique and his team will need Ousmane Dembélé to be at his best from October to the end of the campaign.

2- Khvicha Kvaratskhelia

The Georgian was certainly one of the biggest influences to Paris Saint-Germain's second consecutive Champions League title, which then fired him at the top of the Ballon d'Or frontrunners list alongside Kylian Mbappé, Harry Kane, Lamine Yamal and his PSG teammate Ousmane Dembélé.

However, he has struggled to deliver consistently for PSG this season. Like many of his teammates, the start of his campaign has been underwhelming to say the least. He is undoubtedly the best left winger in the world since last year and has not shown it this season so far.

The clash against Manchester City on Wednesday will be the best opportunity for his and the team to prove once more that they are a force to be reckoned with.

3- Matvey Safonov

The Russian goalkeeper is certainly the only player of this team under pressure all year round. He moved up the ranks and became the number one option in goal for PSG last season after the disappointing performances of Lucas Chevalier.

He helped the team secure a historical second Champions League title, but still needs to prove game after game that he belongs as one of the best at his position in Europe.
