The Paris Saint-Germain have opened their 2026-2027 campaign with two finals within a week, which saw them defeat Unai Emery's Aston Villa 2-1 in the UEFA Super Cup and lose to Ligue 1 rivals RC Lens 1-0 in the Trophée des Champions.
On Sunday, they will face Stade Rennais at the Roahzon Park, a fixture initially set to take place at the Parc des Princes. However, due to the horrible state of the pitch, the receiving side was switched. Furthermore, the club will have a new incredible challenge awaiting them as the back-to-back Champions League winners will hope to win a third consecutive European title.
To do so, they will need to remain unpredictable to their opponents thanks to Luis Enrique, their players and leaders. While this team as always used their collective to dominate Europe and Ligue 1 these last two seasons, some individualities will shine and play important roles to help the club reach their objectives.
Here are the three Paris Saint-Germain players that could define the 2026-2027 season as they aim to keep their domination over Europe ongoing.
Three PSG players that could define the 2026-2027 campaign
1- Kvhicha Kvaratskhelia
The Georgian will undoubtedly be the most important PSG player at the beginning of the season. He unfortunately failed to qualify for the 2026 World Cup this summer with his country and was therefore able to enjoy a long and restful summer. He already showed why he is a favourite to win the 2026 Ballon d'Or as he opened the season with the same intensity that he finished the last, scoring a magnificent goal against Aston Villa in the UEFA Super Cup.
The winger could become one of the best player in the world this season if he plays his cards right and keeps delivering on the highest stage, he could define PSG's season, probably even more than Ousmane Dembélé ever did. But to do so, he will undoudtedly need to lead the club to a third consecutive Champions League title.
2-Ferran Torres
The former FC Barcelona player joined the club this season, trading the Blaugrana for the Rouge et Bleus of PSG for approximately €50 million. He played a huge role for Spain at the 2026 World Cup, scoring the only goal of the final against Argentina. While he is not expected to be a starter at the start of the season, he could be crucial further into the season with his experience and his incredible versatility.
The club remained dominant thanks to their ability to count on many players coming off the bench to win them games like Gonçalo Ramos did several times.
3-Matvey Safonov/Lucas Chevalier
The two PSG goalkeeper will be very important for the club this season following the collapsed deal with Zion Suzuki. The club looking for another goalkeeper fragilised their positions at the club and they will need to prove that they can be credible number one options for the years to come.
Matvey Safonov will be the one starting the season between the posts but Lucas Chevalier could still manage to get his spot back if the Russian were to disappoint.
