Paris Saint-Germain secured an important 5-3 victory over the Spurs in an eight-goal thriller at the Parc des Princes, perfectly led by Vitinha's first career hat-trick. The victory helped the European Champions climbed to the second spot of the League Phase table as they bounced back from their loss against Bayern Munich.

During the clash, Nuno Mendes who recently came back from a knee injury and will therefore miss the upcoming game against AS Monaco. Moreover, a win in this game will be important as Marseille sit just two points behind Les Parisiens.

Three key talking points ahead of Monaco vs PSG

1. Nuno Mendes should have been rested

As mentioned earlier, Nuno Mendes will miss the upcoming clash against Monaco due to a new muscle injury sustained against Tottenham. This new injury comes when the Portuguese left-back just recovered from a knee injury.

This is a huge blow for Luis Enrique and his team, however, this injury is certainly to his responsibility. The Portugal international' return to competition should have been handled with more care. He played the first two games since his return when he could have eased into the squad when Lucas Hernandez was a real option to start against Le Havre.

It is unfortunately not the first time that Luis Enrique has rushed a player's return as Ousmane Dembélé only featured for 25 minutes against Bayern Munich when he should have started on the bench. This trend is dramatically different from what was showcased last season when players were not rushed back into the squad which in turn diminished the number of injuries with the club.

2. Hernandez will need to step up

With Nuno Mendes set to miss the game against Monaco, Lucas Hernandez should be the one starting at the left-back position. However, the France international just came off a bad performance against Tottenham due an awful red card following an elbow to the face of Xavi Simons.

This gesture was unfortunately not an isolated incident and could cast some doubt over his ability to remain a reliable second option behind Nuno Mendes. This upcoming game will be the perfect opportunity for him to step up and prove how important he could be when called forward.

3. Tough title race

With Marseille and Lens keeping up the pace with PSG after 13 Ligue 1 games, many fans are excited to have a real title race, making it harder for Paris to win a domestic league that they effortlessly dominated in recent years.

This pace will push the Parisians to greater heights, forcing them to remain focus all season if they hope to retain their league title as well as their hope of back-to-back treble. The game against Monaco will be another test for the European Champions.
