After achieving a historical season that saw the club lift their first-ever Champions League trophy, it is now time for Nasser Al-Khelaifi and Luis Campos to scout the market to recruit players that would help strengthen the European champion squad if they were to win the competition again next season after competing in the FIFA Club World Cup this summer.

To do so, the club would need to recruit at three key positions to keep a solid rotation and secure domestic and European success. Here are the three key positions that must strengthen this summer.

3 Key positions that PSG must strengthen ahead of next season

1. Right-back

It should come at no surprise, Paris Saint-Germain desperately need another right-back able to step in whenever Achraf Hakimi will need to rest next season. Throughout this season, Luis Enrique and his staff managed to achieve great success without a back up for the Morocco international, having Warren Zaire-Emery or Joao Neves playing out of position in Ligue 1 mostly. Which was made possible thanks to PSG's total domination over the league as they went unbeaten throughout the first 31 games of the season, while avoiding any significant injuries.

However, next season could be very different and injuries though manageable domestically could be fatal in Europe next year. Therefore, Luis Campos should consider recruiting an alternative to Hakimi in case of an injury.

2. Centre-back

Paris Saint-Germain is aiming to strengthen their backline this summer, the club is targeting a young and right-footed centreback that would seamlessly fit within the squad. Though it may look like the club search for a replacement for Marquinhos, reports suggest that it would be more to prepare the future than pushing the legendary captain out of the rotation.

Many names came out but the player that seems to be the preferred candidate is Bournemouth Illia Zabarnyi, the 22-year-old Ukraine international is a very solid player and became an important figure for the Cherries last season alongside Dean Huijsen who since joined Real Madrid.

3. Central Midfielder

The last position that the club should fill is in the midfield. Last season, Paris Saint-Germain's midfield was undoubtedly the most dominant in Europe leading the team to a historic treble. Nonetheless, with Kang-In Lee on his way out of the club, the team will need to recruit in this position.

Recently, links with Argentine wonderkid Mastantuono from River Plate were reported but it now seems that the player will join Real Madrid instead. The club will then certainly move on to another player to become a solid alternative to Vitinha, Joao Neves and Fabian Ruiz in midfield.
