PSG is gearing up for the biggest game of their season when they take on Inter Milan in the Champions League final on Saturday.
The game is massive for both sides, but more so for PSG, as the owners have invested so much money into the club to win this trophy. Both clubs have suffered heartbreak at this stage of the tournament recently, PSG in 2020 against Bayern Munich and Inter Milan in 2023 against Man City.
Simone Inzaghi's side has an added incentive as they know this is their only chance of winning silverware this season. They narrowly missed out on the league title on the final day to Napoli. Here at PSG Post, we discuss three Inter Milan players that will have a huge say on whether their team goes on to win the Champions League
Lautaro Martinez
Martinez will lead the line alongside Marcus Thuram for the Champions League final. These two strikers have good chemistry, and they have been the preferred two up front as they are the best options Inzaghi has at his disposal. Martinez has scored only 12 goals in 31 Serie A games, which is remarkable considering he has scored 9 goals in 12 Champions League matches. The Argentine international has come up clutch in decisive games for the Italian giants. The first game that springs to mind is the second leg against Barcelona, where he opened the scoring for Inzaghi's side.
Alessandro Bastoni
Bastoni is not only Inter Milan's best center-back, but he is one of the best center-backs in the world. How he performs could go a long way to determining who wins the final, as he will have to deal with an in-form Ousmane Dembele and Desire Doue. His toughest task may be dealing with Khvicha, as Denzel Dumfries is not the best full-back defensively, and Khvicha likes to run at players. Bastoni and Dumfries may have to double up on Khvicha if he does start the game. You can argue PSG's season changed when Khvicha came in January, as that was when their fortunes in Europe changed.
Marcus Thuram
French International Marcus Thuram can pose problems for the PSG defence. Despite not having the best season in Serie A, he has scored in important games for the Italian giants. The one that comes to mind is his goal in the first minute of the first leg of the semi-final tie against Barcelona. Marquinhos and Pacho need to have solid games to prevent Thuram from having numerous chances. Thuram is the type of striker who will score if you give him numerous opportunities.
